I am very excited to let you know that in 2020 Northside Christian College will again offer an Opt-In Secondary concert band program available to all Years 7, 8 and 9 students. The cost to you as Parent/Guardian will be for the hire of an instrument, at a cost to you of $250 per semester. This opportunity is for students who have already participated in the Year 6 Concert band who would like to continue learning as well as any student in Years 7, 8 or 9 who would like to start learning a band instrument in secondary school.

There are many studies that show being in a band program enhances a student’s performance in all areas of the curriculum.  

A separate study showed that there is a high relationship between interest in school music and high self-perception, high cognitive competence scores and general self-esteem (Costa-Giomi, E. 1998).

How It Works:

Students will hire an instrument from the school for the duration of the Semester, have weekly rehearsals as well as sectionals to increase student’s individual development on their instruments.

It is also recommended that ALL students take advantage of our Individual Lesson Program so your child can work with a specialist teacher and improve their skills. 

Each week the school will schedule a rehearsal either before school, after school weekly where students can work together as a whole band, have small group sectionals and work with a conductor on a regular week-by-week basis throughout the semester and year.

In order to maximise the effectiveness of the Years 7, 8 and 9 Opt-In Secondary Concert Band Program, ALL students wishing to take part in 2020 will be required to select an instrument using the preference form below and make full payment to the school office for the hire of their instrument before the start of Term 1.
