I am very excited to let you know that in 2020 Northside Christian College will again offer an Opt-In Primary Year 4-6 String program available to all Years 4, 5 and 6 students. The cost to you as Parent/Guardian will be $0 for the String program rehearsals at lunch time. Participation in group or individual lessons will apply in most cases.
If you require hire of an instrument this will be charged at $150 per semester. This opportunity is for students who have already participated in the Year 3 Compulsory String Program who would like to continue learning as well as any student in Years 4-6 who would like to start learning a string instrument.
There are many studies that show being in a band program enhances a student’s performance in all areas of the curriculum.
“A United States Department of Education study showed that students who had high levels of involvement in instrumental music during their middle and senior school years show significantly higher levels of mathematics proficiency by Year 12.”

A separate study showed that there is a high relationship between interest in school music and high self-perception, high cognitive competence scores and general self-esteem (Costa-Giomi, E. 1998).

How It Works:
Students have the option of hiring an instrument from the school for the duration of the Semester and will have weekly lunch times rehearsals.
It is also recommended that ALL students take advantage of our Individual Lesson Program so your child can work with a specialist teacher and improve their skills.
Each week the school will schedule a rehearsal at lunch time.
